School Supply List

This is the list of school supplies that was given out with the end of year report card:

Kindergarten - No Supplies Requested (I would assume Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, Kleenex pencils and glue stick will be wanted).

First Grade - Backpack with NO wheels, plastic pencil box (no zipper), hand sanitizer, Lysol or Clorox wipes, Ziploc bag - gallon and quart size, and Kleenex.

Second Grade - No Supplies Requested (I would assume Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, Kleenex pencils and glue stick will be wanted).

Third Grade - Box of tissues, paper towels, Clorox wipes, glue sticks, pencils, and hand sanitizer.

Fourth Grade - 3 glue sticks, 1 box Ticonderoga pencils, 2 boxes of tissues, hand sanitizer, crayola markers, colored pencils, 2 spiral bound notebooks, 2 or 3 white board markers, sock or rag for eraser, Clorox wipes, 2 composition notebooks.

Fifth Grade - 5 two sided pocket folders, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, Kleenex, dry erase markers, markers, and a one inch three ring binder.

Sixth Grade - Colored pencils, pencils, pencil tip erasers, 2 spiral notebooks, 2 composition notebooks, 1 ream of college lined paper, protractor, paper towels, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and Clorox wipes.

Open House: 2011-2012 School Year

During our PTA meeting yesterday we were happily surprised when our Lehi Smith's managers came in and presented our school with a check for $8,374.06!! WOW!! The school has many needs that this money can help with.

Many thanks to all of the parents who took the time to sign up for this program on their Fresh Values Card! It makes a HUGE difference for our school.

**Remember that you have to re-sign up for this program EVERY year. We will send out the bar codes that can be scanned at any checkout. If you forget your bar code, simply go to the customer service counter, and they can look up our school and get you signed up.

Ridgeline Is a Team Player!

During the month-long program students were able to see their reading minutes grow on a graph in the front hallway.: RES ASD

Students at Ridgeline read, and read, and read as part of the Utah Jazz, “Be a Team Player—Read” reading contest. Students were encouraged to read above and beyond their normal reading from January 23 to February 23, and they read hundreds of minutes each week.

During the month-long program students were able to see their reading minutes grow on a graph in the front hallway. Students were “jazzed up” about reading with daily music and announcements about top readers in each grade. Along the way students were rewarded for reading with T-shirts, candy treats, basketballs, stickers and other small prizes. Mr. Jeff Shirley kept enthusiasm high and got the whole family involved with a Jazz Reading Night at the school. Students were invited to bring parents and siblings to school on January 29 and join with other families in reading together. Students read, ate treats, entered drawings and worked on their goal of becoming stronger readers.

“Be a Team Player–Read” is an annual reading contest sponsored by the Utah Jazz, Scholastic Book Fairs, Russell’s Ice Cream and United First Financial. Fifty-five schools along the Wasatch Front participated this year. Ridgeline Elementary was among the top ten schools in total minutes of reading. Students were rewarded for reading so much by having Utah Jazz player Carlos Boozer visit the school on March 3 to read to students.

Boozer not only read to students, but he also shared personal experiences about growing up in Alaska, how much he loves basketball and his family, and how important reading and setting goals has been in his life. He took time to present reading awards to top readers in every class K-6, answered questions from students, and posed for a few photographs.

Each student received an autographed photo of Carlos Boozer, and Russell’s Ice Cream provided shakes for the entire student body. ♦

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is Monday, March 23rd through Friday, March 27th!

Each class will have a chance during the week to create a letter and/or picture letting their teacher know how and why they are appreciated. PTA will provide the supplies for this activity, and will also be binding these letters into a book for our teachers.

If you would like to help give our teachers a boost on their school supplies, please have your child bring any generic school supply item to school any day between Monday, March 23rd & Friday, March 27th for their classroom “school supply gift bag”. If you would like to give your teacher a more personal gift, you are welcome to do so.

This is all optional, and we do not want to put any pressure on parents. Please feel free to give a simple “Thank you” to your child’s teacher as well. These are always welcome at anytime of the year!

Be a Team Player...READ!!

Our reading contest has begun! If our school reaches our goal of 1.5 million minutes, a Jazz Player will visit our school again!!!

Here are a few important points to remember:
*Contest runs January 23rd - February 23rd
*Only out of school minutes count
*Parents can read to children and count the minutes
*Parents can read to multiple children that go the school and count all the minutes for each child
*Parents must sign student's reading slip for minutes to count

After school reading party is on Thursday, January 29th from 6-8 p.m.
Bring a your students and a cozy blanket to read at our school! PTA will be providing refreshments.
We recommend "A" track come from 6-7pm, and "B" track come from 7-8pm. This is just a recommendation...come when you can!

Halloween Parade: 9:30a.m.

Halloween Parties: 1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Ridgeline Run was a HUGE Success!

Our 3rd annual Ridegeline Run was a HUGE success!! We surpassed our goal, raising over $17,000! The students had a terrific time, wearing their new Ridgeline Run t-shirts with pride. We would like to give special thanks to Jen Christensen, our Ridgeline Run Commissioner, and her wonderful committee who made this event a success. Ridgeline Run on October 3rd

Join us on Friday, October 3 for our 3rd Annual Ridgeline Run! Our Ridgeline Run encourages physical activity, school spirit and most of all, FUN! Students will collect pledges for their participation. If each student can bring in a donation of $20 we will reach our school goal of $15,000. If we reach our goal EVERY student will receive a FREE Ridgeline Run t-shirt for race day! This is our PTA's main fundraiser. Our goal this year is to buy new books for the library, sponsor field day and to be able to continue the great programs the PTA offers. Please turn in pledge packets by September 30th.

Ways to Earn Tickets:
- Return t-shirt order form by September 24th
- Participate on Race Day
- Return Pledge Packet by September 30th with $20 in Pledges
- 1 additional ticket for every $5 over the $20 pledge

Pedestrian Safety Month

September is Pedestrian Safety Month. The school's entrance is full of posters that students have made to show how they can be safe. We had over 130 participants. As parents we need to set the best examples as we can for our children. Please use designated crosswalks, and teach your students why safety is so important.

Grandparent / Special Guest Day!

Grandparents Day is this Friday September 26th. There are three sessions in the morning, and one session in the p.m. to accommodate p.m. kindergarten and preschool. The purpose of having multiple identical sessions is to allow grandparents to visit multiple grandchildren.

Here are the times:
Session 1: 9:15 - 9:35 am
Session 2: 9:40 - 10:00 am
Session 3: 10:05 - 10:25 am
Afternoon preschool and kindergarten: 12:40 - 1:05pm

*Remember to tell your guest your grade and teacher so they can find the classroom.

There have also been some questions regarding SunCrest students and their residency status that we wanted to answer. Utah County SunCrest have always been a part of Alpine School District. The Salt Lake County SunCrest students are granted resident status (as opposed to transfer student status), due to legislation dealing with unique transportation issues that passed in the legislature in January 2008. So, all SunCrest students are in Alpine School District as resident students.

Back to School Night

We are almost through the first week of school! It is wonderful seeing all of the bright smiles in the hallways. Back to School Night is quickly approaching. Here are the details:

*There are three identical sessions to help parents be able to make it to all of their children's classrooms. Teachers will be giving parents important tools and information about the curriculum for the school year. I wanted to thank our Parents and Staff for making the Open House such a success! And I wanted to express a special thanks to our fabulous PTA volunteers who worked night and day to get ready for the Open House. When some of us were at the school Thursday night well past midnight, I knew we had a awesomely dedicated group!! Special Thanks to Mindi Beck for organizing so much of the silent auction and the membership campaign. She ROCKS! Special Thanks to Julie Bettinson who helped orchestrate our event, and even provided donations for the auction. And a Special Thanks to Renee our Treasurer - Although she thinks in numbers (which is the BEST for our books!) she was game to go out soliciting donations, and setting up and manning a table at the Open House. A few more volunteers like these, and we will have a PTA Super Hero Team! Thanks to all of our volunteers - without you the night would have been chaos.

Those of you who joined PTA, PLEASE volunteer! We need you! It can be as little as 30 minutes a week, a one time event, or as much 'till your heart's content! If everyone did a small amount, we would have success and less burnout.

It was fun meeting new parents and seeing familiar faces. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Open House

Our Open House is quickly approaching!

It is Friday August 15th, from 4pm-6pm.

The PTA will have a few booths set up. There will be one form to fill out for all your Memberships and School Spirit T-Shirt(s) needs. We will have three checkout lines, to try to alleviate wait time. This year we will be offering a discounted Spirit Family Membership for $26. This includes any two Adult PTA Memberships (can include family members such as a grandparent, uncle or aunt etc. in addition to a parent) and two Ridgeline Spirit T-Shirts.

If you are interested in volunteering with PTA, the Open House is a chance for you to sign up! The more the merrier! This gives you a chance to "K.I.S.S. your child" - Keeping Involved Sustains Success!

We will also be having a silent auction with donations from the community at the Open House and Back to School Night. This is a fun way to recognize our local businesses that support what we do, and to raise some funds for the programs and events that our PTA brings to the school.

Every Friday is Spirit Day. A different grade will randomly be selected, and students of that grade who are wearing their Ridgeline Spirit T-Shirts in that will win a prize!

We are excited to serve with the PTA this year, and look forward to seeing you and your student's smiling faces at the Open House!
